Events & Happenings

The members of the Cherryholmes family share some talented DNA. They have been playing and performing together since 1999. This bluegrass sextet spans two generations, including father Jere (bass/vocals), mother Sandy Lee (mandolin/vocals), daughters Cia Leigh (banjo/guitar/vocals) and Molly Kate (fiddle/vocals), and sons B.J. (fiddle/vocals) and Skip (guitar/mandolin/vocals.) All six members take turns singing lead and showcasing their musical versatility. Their live shows include twin fiddles, Irish step dancing, classic country yodeling, and old-time claw hammer in addition to their dynamic bluegrass.Cherryholmes has stormed to the top of the bluegrass world, becoming regular performers at the historic Grand Ole Opry. In 2005, Cherryholmes won the International Bluegrass Music Association (IMBA) award for Entertainer of the Year. This was followed by a Grammy nomination in 2006 for their first commercial release “Cherryholmes.” Their second release on the legendary Skaggs Family Records label “Cherryholmes II,” was released in May 2007 and was the 2008 nominee for Best Bluegrass Album.

The club has a membership of over 500 and serves around 100 children each weekday.  It costs approximately $500 per member per year to run the club operations.  Members pay only $18/year to belong to the club (12 mos.), and the balance of operations ($240,000+) must be raised through grants and private donations and fund raisers.

So, come out and enjoy the fun on October 18th at the Fall Chili Dinner & Kid’s Carnival!  Tickets for the Chili Dinner may be purchased at The Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale, Realty Central (Murdale Shopping Center) and the Carbondale Park District/Life Community Center (2500 W. Sunset Dr.).
