A Carbondale Park District tradition, the Cake and Ice Cream social offers our senior population a chance to bring their families out for some ice cream, cake, live music, giveaways and socializing on the picturesque grounds of Hickory Lodge. Some seating is provided, feel free to bring your own lawn chair.

Cool down, chill out, and have fun on a hot summer day! Wear your swimsuit, bring a towel; come and play in a blast of water shooting form the aerial fire truck. This program is offered in conjunction with the Carbondale Fire Department. Shoes are recommended. All sessions are from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. Free Event!

Each year, the Friends Board of the WSIU Stations hosts a fun-filled gala fundraiser in celebration of WSIU Public Broadcasting. Who knew this much fun could make such a difference?

We hope you will help to make this year’s event a success by making plans to attend. The Fantasy Auction will be held Saturday, June 3, 2006 at the SIUC Student Center Ballrooms in Carbondale. You and your friends will enjoy cocktails, an elegant dinner buffet with regional wines, live music, and of course, our extraordinary live and silent Auctions. In addition, you won’t want to miss the evening’s Fun Finale. The festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. and will conclude around 11:00 p.m. Tickets are $60.00 per person, of which $30 may be considered a charitable contribution in support of WSIU Public Broadcasting. The Sunset Concert Series defines Southern Illinois summers. This weekly series of outdoor music, which features a variety of genres, is now in its 28th season. The series starts at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 15 on the steps of Shryock Auditorium and continues for the next seven Thursdays, alternating between Shryock and Turley Park.The free concerts allow alcohol, but no glass, bottles, kegs or pets are permitted and underage drinking laws are strictly enforced. 2006 Sunset Concert Series schedule:

CMS Seeking Bar-B-Q Competitor’s For Pig Out Event

Carbondale Main Street is again proud to announce the tenth annual Mediscom/OnMedia Main Street Pig Out in Carbondale, Illinois. The bar-b-q cook-off will take place on Friday, September 15 and continue through Saturday, September 16 in the 710 Bookstore Parking lot area at 710 S. Illinois Ave. This event is sanctioned and regulated by the Kansas City Barbeque Society and has been proclaimed by Illinois Governor George Blogojevich as a State Championship BBQ Cook-off.
Registration for bar-b-q teams is still open, but is limited to 15 teams. There is a $25 entry fee to compete in each of four categories. All entries must be received by August 21st, 2006. .Each competitor will get a booth approximately 15’ x 20’.
