One of the longest running musicals of all time is coming to Carbondale. The Stage Co. is proud to present The Fantasticks. The Fantasticks, freely adapted from Edmond Rostand’s 1894 play Les Romanesques, tells an age-old tale. Its ingredients are simple: a boy, a girl, two fathers, and a wall. Its stage is a wooden platform, its scenery a tattered cardboard moon. Using only these bare essentials, the author, Tom Jones, and composer, Harvey Schmidt, have managed to bring to life a funny and quite touching story of innocence–and of knowledge.
Appearing in The Fantasticks, Directed by Mary Jo Hanes, are Cassie Grimm as Luisa, Brandon Lingle as Matt, John Lipe as El Gallo, Katie Hughes as The Mute, Herb Voss as Huckelbee, Sam Foskey as Bellomy, Craig Hinde as Henry and Nick Earll as Mortimer. Grimm and Lingle are appearing with The Stage Co. for the first time. Lipe appeared with The Stage Co. several years ago and has been affiliated with various opera companies throughout the United States. Voss and Foskey are Stage Co. members from our recent past few seasons. Hinde, Hughes and Earll have been Stage Co. members for many years. Performances are being held at The Copper Dragon in Carbondale on April 20, 21, 22 at 7:30 p.m. and April 23 at 2:00 p.m. A cash bar and free hors d’ouvres will be available during intermission of the evening performances. General admission tickets are $15 per person for evening performances and $9 for matinee performances and may be purchased in advance from our box office ticket line beginning April 6. Seating is limited, so be sure to order your tickets early. The box office ticket line is open weekdays, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m., Saturday from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. as well as one hour prior to each performance. The number to call for the box office ticket line is 618-549-5466. Please note: Because The Copper Dragon serves alcoholic beverages, Carbondale law requires an adult escort for anyone under the age of 19. |
