The Virgin College Mega Tour. Presented by Dentyne Soft Chew, arrives in Carbondale, Tuesday May 2. The 2006 Virgin College Mega Tour (VCMT) is headlined by Capitol recording artists Yellowcard, who entered the Billboard chart at #5 and landed in the number one slot on the Billboard Alternative Album Chart this January with their latest release, “Lights and Sounds.” Joining Yellowcard on the main stage will be Tooth and Nail artists Mae, who re-released their 2005 album “The Everglow” on April 18. It features over two hours of video and three new tracks. Rounding up the main stage will be Virgin artists Over It. Tickets for all students, whether junior, high school or college students are less than $20.00.
The Virgin College Mega Tour offers a full experience at the Daytime Village where an Emerging Artist stage will feature Strike Fire Fall, Taylor McKenna and Carbondale local band The Accelerators. In the village students can visit the mobile Virgin Megastore featuring listening posts highlighting VCMT artists, head over to presenting sponsor Dentyne Soft Chew’s karaoke booth –where fans can enter drawings to win meet and greets and sound check parties with Yellowcard & Mae, cut a track and walk away with their own CD –including cover art, trek over to key sponsor Major League Baseball’s mobile apparel store –offering the full line of official jerseys, headwear, and outerwear worn by players on all 30 clubs– and try out the latest MLB video game titles, take a swing in the batting and pitching cages, check out the new vehicles provided by key sponsor Pontiac; the Torrent –equipped with an Xbox, the Solstice and the G6 Convertible and drop by the Monster Energy booth for a boost of the new drink to carry them into the PM events. Please mark your calendars for the upcoming cd release party and fundraiser: “Roam Home to the Dome and Please Fence Me In” on Sunday, April 23 at the Hanger 9 in Carbondale. Funds raised from the event will be spent on restoring the Dome’s unique redwood fence designed by Fuller himself. Tickets are $4.00 at the door. The music begins at 6pm and includes (in tentative play order) For Healing Purposes, Carter and Connelly, Grant Harp, Stace England, Lyric, and the Bourbon Knights.

The Southern Illinois Writers and Artists Group will have its monthly meeting on Saturday, April 15th from 2 - 4 p.m. at Rosetta Stone Books in Carbondale. Anyone with an interest in writing, publishing or arts is welcome. The public is encouraged to visit with local writers and artists as well.

A new business has opened in the Carbondale Main Street District. Mirror Image has remodeled the interior of the former Salvation Army, remodeling includes a beautiful open floor plan, new awning, hard wood flooring and more. Carbondale Main Street has provided supplemental grants for the replacement of the awning and for new signage. Mirror Image owned and operated by Shannon Vincent has opened at 118 S. The newest Southern Illinois shopping mall is now officially OPEN!!! The Carbondale Now Mall offers Southern Illinois online marketing opportunities to regional merchants, organizations and entrepreneurs. The main purpose of the Mall is to provide a central and affordable ecommerce solution for Southern Illinois merchants to sell and promote their goods online. At the present time we are inviting only merchants that are a unique part of the Southern Illinois Business To Consumer(B2C) economy.
